Milton, Paradise Lost, Book 1

Paradise Lost, Book 1 is really interesting. It portrays Satan as a hero. The way the devil's speeches are written almost makes him a likable creature. Satan speaks to his follows about free will and the ability to choose how your life goes instead of following "the man". Readers sympathize with the devil and are lured by Satan's arguments away from God. He is very different from what people expect the devil to be like.
